FAQS

Why is Gem At the Beach the perfect holiday house for families?

Besides being a beach house, Gem At the Beach comprises all the characteristics of a rural accommodation: its indoors, touching the rustic vein of the Portuguese southern coast, full of colours, merge with the beach landscape provided by the view from the balconies and the windows.

Imagine arriving from the beach and having a snack with your family on a terrace with a sea view, everyone gathering around the table.

If you wish to stay indoors, there is also plenty of space for children to play and a living room where parents might rest reading a book, watching TV or surfing the Internet. And what about the barbecue area located in one of the balconies? Grilling fish or meat at dusk – does it seem like a good plan?

Is it safe for children?

Safety is a priority – that is why Gem At the Beach has child protection gates in every staircase, so parents don’t need to be worried all the time about their children’s safety inside the house, allowing kids to play without danger.

Are there any supermarkets nearby?

Close to the house there is the village traditional market where you can find local fresh produce – bread, fish, vegetables, fruit… -, and there are also supermarkets, butcheries, grocery stores and restaurants.

What is the best time of the year to stay at Gem At the Beach?

Although Vila Nova de Milfontes is usually perceived as a summer destination (especially because of its location right at the heart of the Portuguese southern coast), the beach house for families Gem At the Beach is available for booking the entire year because it is equipped for the cooler seasons.

A fireplace in the living room warms a wide area of the house, making it cosy enough for a winter afternoon with board games or preparing a cheese and ham board for a snack. Even if the weather is not appropriate to go to the beach, the Alentejo coast allows you to go for hiking or a stroll with your family.

Which activities are available in the surroundings?

The South West Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park begins in Porto Covo and stretches through the Portuguese coastline, for 100 km, until Burgau (Algarve), comprising the municipalities of Sines, Odemira, Aljezur and Vila do Bispo.

Steep cliffs with its various shapes and formations caused by erosion, wild beaches (no easy access, but breath-taking sceneries once you get there), lagoons, sand dunes and a Mediterranean flora make the composition of this region’s landscape, where there are plenty of places to visit and activities to do.

If, for example, bird watching is something you appreciate, there is no location better to spot a few rare species, such as the white storks or the ospreys.

It should also be noted that this coast is the only region in Portugal where otters live in their natural habitat.

For sports lovers, there are excellent conditions for water-related activities such as surfing, stand up paddle, kayak and so on. You can also enjoy a trail in the Vicentina Route with your family or you can cross the Mira river by boat. Outdoor activities for all tastes! outdoor abundam para todos os gostos e feitios.
